International Solutions LLC seeks a qualified candidate to serve as our candidate for the Urban Climate Resilience Planning Specialist position in our proposal to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to provide technical assistance to carry out a “Climate Change Risk Assessment” in five cities in northern Sindh province: Sukkur, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas, Larkana, and Nawabshah.
Responsibilities
The Urban Climate Resilience Planning Specialist will support the Team Leader/Climate Change Adaptation Specialist in defining and implementing the overall approach and ensure the assignment’s alignment with existing national and local urban climate change initiatives, and the proposed ADB Project Readiness Financing (PRF) titled "Preparing Urban and Water Projects in Sindh". The Specialist will assess the environmental and socio-economic impacts of climate and disaster risks on urban land use planning, essential infrastructure and services, community resilience, public health, economic activities, and natural resources. This will be based on an extensive review of the best practices and relevant design standards. The role will also involve identifying opportunities and resilience solutions for climate resilience planning and investment, including multi-benefit actions such as sustainable water resource management, nature-based solutions, and climate adaptation measures with mitigation co-benefits.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should hold a postgraduate degree in climate science or environment, regional planning, engineering, or a related field, and have at least 12 years of experience in urban green infrastructure planning or urban climate resilience. Familiarity with the context of developing Asian cities and with the ADB/Joint MDB approach for Type 2 adaptation project design is required. Direct regional and country experience is considered an advantage.
